About this Event

Come and join us on the first day of the school holidays for some family fun!

Entry for this all day event is by donation and all online registrations go in the draw to win a kids bike from the EcoMatters Bike Hub!

Featuring:

  • All day giant wooden games with the Wood Botherer
  • Q&A with maker Phil on hand from 10.30am
  • Kowhai and the Giants book reading – 11:30am-12pm
  • Spot prizes for vintage costumes
  • Kids are encouraged to bring something to show on the ‘made it / grew it myself’ table (you can take your item home at the end of the day). From homegrown pumpkins to handmade toys, there will be spot prizes for getting into the spirit of vintage and bringing something along.
  • Check out our second hand kids’ bikes, and more!
  • Every ticket registration goes in the draw to win a kids bike from the EcoMatters Bike Hub!

There will also be three crafty workshops for kids on the day:

1. Creative Clay Garden Markers with Jackie Muller Ceramics – 12:30-1:30pm, $10

Join ceramicist Jackie Muller to make a cute and creative clay plant marker for your garden, ideal for pots/herbs/special plants. Your creations will be fired in Jackie’s kiln for pick up the following week.

2. Harakeke Weaving and Māori Tikanga with Tina Talaić – 1:30-2:30pm, $10

Learn how to make a putiputi (flower) or poroporo (bracelet) out of harakeke and learn some Māori tikanga with educator and singer Kōkā T (Tina Talaic).

3. Patch It! Designer clothes with the Mindful Mender – 2:30-4:30pm, $10

Bring an item of clothing with a hole (or two) and learn how to sew creative patches by hand to mend and transform your outfit with the Mindful Mender (Tineswari Maruthamuthu).

Workshop spaces are limited to 12 attendees per workshop, so please book ahead to secure your spot (tickets purchases are automatically included in the bike giveaway prize draw).

Thanks to Whau Climate Action Network and to EcoMatters volunteers for your help on the day.
