When our trust deed was signed in 2002, it created the foundations for what we’ve become today. From those early days, our profile grew, first with a focus on household sustainability, into an organisation that works with and for the community to deliver environmental outcomes.

28 June: EcoMatters Environment Trust deed signed

2003

Water-saving programme launched, evolved into Sustainable Homes visits

2004

Sustainable Living Centre opens its doors

EcoDay launches

2005

We pioneer home insulation in the Auckland region

2006

Our community collaboration with Project Twin Streams begins

2007

The Trusts EcoHouse opens to the public as a showcase for affordable sustainable living

2010

Auckland Council is formed

2012

EcoWest launches, month-long festival of environmental activities

2013

Project Twin Streams celebrates 10 years

2015

Distinctive new heart brand launched

2017

Zero Waste Depot opens at Rosebank Road

Our first Bike Hub opens at New Lynn

2018-19

Henderson and Glen Innes Bike Hubs open

2020

We join scientists and iwi on Te Hau o Te Whau project, tackling plastic pollution

2021

Resource Recovery Depot relocates to Henderson

2022

Queens Wharf Bike Hub opens

2023

Celebrating 21 years!

Over the last five years, we’ve:

  • worked with over 79,000 people
  • fixed more than 15,000 bikes
  • nurtured more than 67,000 trees and plants
  • kept over 900 skip bins of waste out of landfill
  • saved enough water to fill 29 Olympic swimming pools
