Sponge City Guided Walk at Earthsong Sustainable Living Festival

Join Alanah and Pam from our Nature team on a guided walk at Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood, a co-housing development that was built 25 years ago to withstand a one-in-100-year flood.

The guided walks are happening at 10-10.30am and 11-11.30am as part of the Earthsong Sustainable Living Festival – a day of music, workshops, stalls, site tours, food and fun happening from 9.30am-3pm.

Come and see how Earthsong was designed to be a “spongy neighbourhood” that allows the natural flow of rainwater, and check out the planted overland swale system and rainwater harvesting tanks. We’ll look at how its flood mitigating features were designed to work with nature, and helped to make sure homes didn’t flood in the heavy rains of January 2023. These guided walks are supported by Auckland Council Healthy Waters.
