EcoHub

Experience a buzzing, environmentally ambitious community hub when you call in to EcoMatters EcoHub in New Lynn. Just on the edge of Olympic park and by the Waitahurangi Stream, the hub brings together many of our EcoMatters and volunteer efforts in one location, just a stone’s throw from local public transport hubs. You can’t miss our little black bungalow decorated by local artist Mandy Patmore with the kinds of native birds we’re all working to see flourish in the hapori (community).

Borrow from our eco library

Expanding your knowledge on caring for the environment is something EcoMatters wholeheartedly supports and offering our library resources to the public is one way we can show that tautoko (support). We’ve been developing these shareable resources since 2005 and have found operating on an honesty-form policy for three-week rentals is the best way to do this – the instructions are all here at the library.

We accept donations from public libraries and from individuals so if you have anything with a sustainable subject line that you no longer want, please let us know!

Your contact for the library is Meg: [email protected]

Fascinating Fridays for schools

A visit to the EcoHub can show tamariki (children) that efforts in many areas of life are important in our role as kaitiakitanga. From recycling, to food forests and worm farming, we promise a fascinating and fun half day out for up to 25 primary school children or 20 intermediate and above children, at just $5 per child.

Knowledge focus

Depending on your class or group age and stage, you may have a specific area of learning in mind. We love to help children focus on knowledge-building and investigation around a specific topic so they go away with a deeper level of understanding and a willingness to make a difference.

Corporate volunteering for team building

When people visit the EcoHub for corporate volunteering and team building, they tell us that it’s not just the range of positive impacts on the environment and community that they’re amazed by, it’s also the collective impact that each area of work has, when put together.

By recognising how each area of improvement works with another, EcoMatters is presenting visitors with a view of what can be done in our own lives when we combine efforts. For instance, consider cycling instead of driving one day a week, and growing your own organic veggies – all of this can be learnt at the hub. We hope to see this on a much larger scale across the country. In some ways, we see the EcoHub as a form of practical whanaungatanga (interconnectedness).

Learn about a particular area of environmental restoration or volunteer with us at one of our regular sessions. For group visits we do charge a fee.
