SUMMARY:Matariki Planting on the Waitahurangi Awa
DESCRIPTION:Come along for a community planting along the Waitahurangi Awa at Olympic Park\, New Lynn. We’re celebrating Matariki with an emphasis on the whetū Waitī\, the star representing the freshwater environment and all our plants and animals that live in and around this Waitahurangi streamside area. \nThe native plants we put into the ground will add stability to the stream banks\, slow water flow during heavy rain\, reducing flash flood impact and helping manage stormwater. These plants also stabilize stream banks and provide habitat for native wildlife.  \nAll ages welcome; however\, children must be supported by an adult. Participants are asked to wear sturdy closed toe footwear\, ideally gumboots.  \nMeet at EcoMatters Environment Trust\, 1 Olympic Place\, New Lynn. \nHosted by EcoMatters Environment Trust. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a winter working bee\, to help with fruit tree planting\, mulching\, prepartory work for a future Rongoā garden and plantings to support the health of the Whau River. \nHope Teaching Garden is one of two teaching gardens overseen by EcoMatters. It’s a space dedicated to growing food and providing opportunities to learn and share skills. \nPlease bring your own garden gloves and wear closed toe shoes or boots.
